May Fest Returns to Springfield Avenue!
Family Event Takes Place Sunday, May 18, 11 AM to 5 PM
MAPLEWOOD — An extended Maplewood May Fest returns
to Springfield Avenue on Sunday, May 18th, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This
annual FREE event focuses on "family fun" with amusement
rides, live music, balloons, face painting and more than 70 food, craft,
clothing and other vendors. Rain date is Sunday, June 1st.
The event —now attracting more than 70 vendors
and 3,000 attendees— moved from Maplecrest Park to Springfield Avenue
in 2007. The change of venue has been a stunning success, highlighting
the revitalization of Springfield Avenue. May Fest extends from Indiana
Street to Princeton Street along Springfield Avenue, with the event centered
at Springfield and Prospect.
This year, the event is expanding from five
hours to six hours, spanning from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Live music is scheduled for the entire duration including Mr. Ray at
11:45 a.m.
"We are really excited to once again invite the community
to enjoy the success of Springfield Avenue," says Beth Macdonald,
Executive Director of the Springfield Avenue Partnership which organizes
and manages the event. In recent years, new businesses such as Café Meow,
Furbish, KnitKnack Yarn Shop, Fringe Aveda Salon, Dinnersmith, Indigo
Smoke, Stories in Motion, Shakti yoga, Clain Pilates, The Gym and NetNomads
have made Springfield Avenue a destination in Maplewood and beyond. New
construction at Yale Street will bring more retail space and residents
to the area in the coming year.
Event sponsors include Comcast, PSE&G, Ricciardi Brothers,
DCH Audi, and the Jesse Smith Noyes Foundation.
