Springfield Avenue Merchant News for January 6, 2026
Black History Month
Black History Month starts Feb 1 and the Maplewood Township coordinates a town-wide celebration!
If you are planning an event for Black History Month and want to be included in town-wide media and promotions, please send your event info.
Example of events you can host include classes, promotions, readings, music, speakers, art displays, highlighting specific vendors etc.

Windows for Women
Our art partners are reviewing artist applications for Windows for Women in celebration of Women's History Month in March.
In the meantime, we are collecting merchant interest in hosting art! (Info on last years event here)
To be considered, businesses need to have a visible front-facing window or a publicly accessible display area inside the store.

Clearing Snow and Ice from Sidewalks
I want to remind merchants of Springfield Avenue about removing snow and ice from the sidewalks in front of your businesses.
For the safety of your customers and pedestrians, it is recommended that you remove snow and ice within 4 hours after the end of a weather event.
(Note: The town ordinance requires that snow and ice be removed within 24 hours after the end of a weather event.)
If you are unsure whose responsibility it is (the tenant's or the landlord's), you should check the language of your lease.
